Eyelash extensions are not only the latest beauty trend – they’re big
business.Five years ago, 81 salons in Texas had state licenses for
eyelash extensions. This year, the number has more than quadrupled to
343 salons.

Each one gets a thorough inspections from the Texas Department of
Licensing and Regulation.Inspections at these salons are similar to what
you see at any beauty salon. The state is making sure employees have
the proper licenses, and that everything from tools to towels to head
rests are cleaned and disinfected for each client to avoid viruses or
infections.
"They're also looking to make sure that any extensions or any eyelash
materials are being kept in a sealed bag, or they're in a covered
container. They should never just be sitting out in the air,” TDLR
spokesperson Tela Mange says.
The Trouble Shooters pulled the state inspection reports for all licensed eyelash extension salons in Bexar County.
From January through September of this year, 13 businesses here got
inspected and no major issues were found. Only three needed corrections,
and they were all very minor.
Amazing Lash – Alamo Ranch was inspected in March. The inspector said
the salon needed covered trash cans. Management tells us that was
handled immediately.
Two locations of The Lash Lounge also received small corrections. In
May, an inspector found the Stone Oak location was storing cleaning
supplies in a restroom. In September, an inspector at The Rim location
found a towel with a dye stain being used, as well as a problem with the
way a stylist’s license was displayed.
The owners of The Lash Lounge told us in a statement: “We have been
proud franchise owners with The Lash Lounge since December 2015 and
currently own two locations serving San Antonio in Stone Oak and The
Rim. During our most recent inspection, the State of Texas Department of
Licensing and Regulation conducted its cosmetology salon inspection of
both locations and we received three minor corrections, all of which
were immediately addressed with no follow-up required. The Lash Lounge
only employs licensed stylists and conducts on-going training and
certifications to provide the highest standard of premium eyelash
services.”
State inspectors tell us if you are interested in eyelash extensions,
any salon should be able to provide you their inspection report, no
questions asked.
