As of 15:00, July 5, 2022, China recorded 185 high-risk areas (1 in Beijing, 2 in Tianjin, 14 in Liaoning, 2 in Shanghai, 32 in Jiangsu, 117 in Anhui, 12 in Fujian, and 5 in Shaanxi) and 79 medium-risk areas.
Anhui province becomes a new epicenter: Over the past week, Anhui reported more than 850 cases, making it a new epicenter in China. Neighboring Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces have also been affected by cases spilling over from Anhui. Shanghai to reopen cinemas from July 8, 2022: According to a notice released by the Shanghai Film Bureau, Shanghai will reopen movie theaters starting from July 8, 2022, following a more than two-month closure since March 10, 2022 due to the city’s COVID-19 outbreak. There will be no food and drink sold or allowed in cinemas and visitors will need to provide a negative nucleic acid text from the last 72 hours and wear masks. The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) announced that in order to ease traveling, cities with positive COVID-19 cases will no longer be marked with an asterisk (*) on China’s travel code (行程卡 xingcheng ka). Asterisks had been used before to prevent people from visiting areas and cities if they had recently visited or resided in a place with COVID-19 cases. Official announcements from local authorities of cities with recent major outbreaks (such as Beijing and Shanghai) are yet to be released.
Hong Kong might cut down hotel quarantine for inbound travellers to five days, with another two to be spent in home isolation. The news has been reported to the SCMP by Professor Lo Chung-mau, who will become the new secretary for health on July 1, 2022.
According to the latest version of the COVID-19 Prevention and Control Plan released by the National Health Commission, the quarantine time for inbound travelers and close contacts of confirmed has been reduced to 7+3.
Shanghai allows dine-in. Shenzhen shuts down the city district of Futian. On June 26, 2022, Shenzhen closed wholesale markets, cinemas, and gyms in the central district of Futian, nearby Hong Kong, for the following three days to prevent a wider spread of Covid-19 cases.
More cities cut quarantine time for international arrivals. At least eight cities in China have cut quarantine times for international arrivals from 14 to 10 or seven days, according to a report from the Global Times. The cities are Nanjing, Wuxi, Changzhou, Beijing, Wuhan, Chengdu, Xiamen, and Ningbo. Beijing cut the quarantine period from 10 days to a 7+7 model (seven days of centralized quarantine plus seven days of home quarantine) starting from May 15 on a trial basis. Nanjing in Jiangsu province has also cut the centralized quarantine time from 14 to seven days, starting two weeks ago. Meanwhile, Chengdu, Xiamen, and Ningo have shortened the centralized quarantine time from 14 to 10 days. Other ports of entry still impose a minimum of 14 days of centralized quarantine. People planning on traveling to China are still encouraged to consult with their local embassy or consulate to confirm all travel and quarantine requirements before traveling as the requirements are subject to change.
