Tips For Growing Your CNC Machining Business

Starting a new business can be a challenging endeavor, especially if the entrepreneur is entering a crowded market with large, well-established competitors already in place. Small CNC machine shops face hurdles similar to those of other small businesses, and, like their non-industrial counterparts, have the same potential for securing contracts and growing within the industry despite these obstacles.Outdoor optical fiber cable

Here are some tips and suggestions that may help in establishing or expanding your small CNC shop.
1. Develop Partnerships
For many start-up machine shop owners, the early days can be an uncertain time in which numerous concerns, such as volume expectations, client lists, or even floor plans, have yet to be resolved. In these circumstances, existing friendships and business connections can be valuable assets.

Whether having friends steer clients in your direction, enter into partnerships, or simply provide advice on business practices, relying on your current connections can give you a useful leg-up.

2. Target Your Segment of the Marketplace
It is generally a good practice to focus on the specific types of purchasers that will buy your products at the best volume rate. For example, if your shop specializes in producing gear shafts with a diameter under five inches, try to establish relationships with companies that purchase this product at a rate favorable to your production cycle and turnover.

Targeting your market niche will help you make the best use of your specialty. A good example of a company who targets a niche market is Fanuc Spares. They focus only on this specific manufacturer and specialize only in replacement parts. This proved to be a very successful model for what may seem like a limited market. Another marketing method is leveraging, emerging technologies such as the internet and social networking can help leverage your shop's visibility in both search engines and online helping reach people near and far.

3. Don’t Rush to Expand
Purchasing machines that are not yet cost-efficient or enlarging facilities without the staff needed to maintain them can slowdown business growth and actually hinder long-term expansion. In many cases, it may be better to concentrate on making steady gains rather than giant leaps forward, as even a small shop with fewer than a dozen machines or employees can still meet or exceed the national productivity average.

4. Diversify According to Demand
While it’s usually a bad idea to take on a job outside the capabilities of your shop, new projects that seem within reach and will provide a cost-efficient result can be a helpful way to diversify your operations. If, for example, a lathing shop has the training and funds to undertake a profitable milling or plastic fabrication contract, then the resulting diversity can help provide sustainable growth even during periods when one sector of the market is on a downswing.
5. Remain Open to New Technology
Even though a new technical innovation can be costly in terms of additional training and initial set-up, recently-developed equipment may have a positive long-term effect by simplifying production methods or providing the means to accomplish tasks that were once considered impractical. New technology can sometimes help a business remain competitive, especially if the innovation gains widespread notice.

T-Mobile begins piloting fixed wireless broadband in the U.S.

T-Mobile has repeatedly made waves in the mobile network space thanks to its Un-carrier initiative, and now it's trying to bring some of that into the world of home broadband. Today, the company announced a pilot program for its fixed wireless broadband network, which aims to bring high-speed internet to more people in the United States.cdma fixed wireless terminal

To kick things off, the pilot program will only be available via invitation, and it'll focus on about 50,000 homes in rural areas where competition is often non-existent when it comes to home broadband and service tends to be poor. The service will be powered by LTE and will be available for homes where T-Mobile is confident it can offer speeds of around 50Mpbs, costing $50 per month with no data caps, no hidden fees and no equipment costs, according to the announcement.

Of course, what T-Mobile really wants is to push for its merger with Sprint to form the New T-Mobile. The firm makes it plain that if the merger is approved, the added scale of the two networks will enable it to bring fixed wireless broadband to over half of the households in the U.S by 2024. And, of course, because we're entering the era of 5G, that's where T-Mobile wants to head with its service, offering speeds of over 100Mpbs.

T-Mobile mentions that home broadband is typically the industry with the lowest customer satisfaction, out of 46 industries measured by the American Customer Satisfaction Index. The company says users pay on average $80 per month for home broadband service, and cites one unnamed economist affirming that T-Mobile could save customers up to $13.64 billion a year with its offering. All of that, of course, remains to be seen when and if the T-Mobile/Sprint merger is approved.

New T-Mobile’s plans for in-home, fixed wireless internet services begin to take shape

When T-Mobile and Sprint first announced their plans to merge in April, the companies didn’t mention any plans to offer in-home broadband internet services. But that changed in June, when the companies promised to grow into the nation’s fourth largest ISP, behind the likes of Comcast and Charter.fixed wireless gsm desk phone

And this week, T-Mobile offered its clearest glimpse yet at exactly what it will offer in terms of in-home, fixed broadband internet services if the company is allowed to merge with Sprint—to become what it has called “New T-Mobile.”Specifically, T-Mobile’s chief operating officer Mike Sievert told the FCC that New T-Mobile “has confirmed that there is a large market for New T-Mobile’s in-home broadband offering at the anticipated pricing and service levels.” He said the company expects to offer in-home internet services to 52% of the zip codes across the county by 2024, covering 64% of Charter’s territory and 68% of Comcast’s territory. “New T-Mobile expects to utilize caching and other network optimization techniques to increase the number of households that can be served,” he said.

Further, Sievert predicted New T-Mobile would gain 1.9 million in-home wireless broadband customers by 2021 and 9.5 million customers by 2024, making it the nation’s fourth largest in-home ISP by 2024.

But perhaps the most interesting item in Sievert’s comments is that New T-Mobile appears to be ready to allow customers to install their own equipment for the service. “Unlike other in-home broadband offerings, the wireless nature of the offering will also provide customers with the choice of avoiding installation appointments and related charges as they will be able to self-provision the necessary in-home equipment,” Sievert said.

Thus, it appears that New T-Mobile believes it will succeed where Verizon appears to have failed. Verizon had developed a prototype aimed at allowing customers to install their own equipment for the carrier’s new 5G Home internet service, but that device was not part of Verizon’s commercial launch of the offering this month. Instead, the carrier said that its technicians would have to install the necessary equipment on the outside of customers’ homes or offices so that they would be able to receive Verizon’s 5G signal.

In his comments about New T-Mobile’s planned in-home wireless broadband offering, Sievert said the company would provide consumers across the country with average download speeds of 100 Mbps. By 2024, he said New T-Mobile will be able to cover more than 250 million people with data rates greater than 300 Mbps and more than 200 million people at greater than 500 Mbps.

Those speeds are generally comparable to those provided by Verizon’s new 5G Home internet service; Verizon has promised consistent speeds of around 300 Mbps and peak rates of up to 1 Gbps.

T-Mobile to Pilot Fixed Wireless Home Broadband Service Using 4G

As T-Mobile and Sprint continue to pursue regulatory approval of their proposed $26 billion merger, T-Mobile outlined more details about the combined company’s plans for in-home fixed wireless broadband service if the deal gets the greenlight.4g gsm desk phone

The nation’s third and fourth largest wireless providers have promised to disrupt the home broadband industry, and a new FCC filing said ‘New T-Mobile’s’ fixed wireless home broadband service would provide average speeds greater than 100 Mbps to 90 percent of the population by 2024. T-Mobile says the service can be deployed “at nominal or low incremental cost,” by leveraging assets and unused capacity from its mobile 5G deployment.

To start the effort, T-Mobile CEO John Legere in a blog post said the operator will “soon begin” a pilot of the home internet service using a 4G router connected to T-Mobile’s LTE network. Following the merger, the router will be upgraded to include 2.5 GHz spectrum and 5G-capable hardware.

According to the filing, the router will also include mesh network capabilities for advanced WiFi. Cost of the LTE and 5G router was redacted, but T-Mobile said it will provide them at no additional cost to customers and it will be a self-installation process.

Pricing for the service was redacted, but T-Mobile said it can “aggressively capture share” by undercutting what broadband providers typically charge today. The New T-Mobile expects to have 9.5 million subscribers in 2024, but that figure is “just the tip of the iceberg,” according to the filing.

Coverage maps and figures of eligible households for the 5G home broadband service were also redacted, but the filing indicates the service will be available to more than half of the country’s households by 2024. In addition to disruption of the home broadband industry, T-Mobile has promised the merger and resulting service will make a significant impact on closing the digital divide and bringing high-speed internet to many rural Americans that lack service or choice.

According to the filing, mobile traffic in many of the deployment areas would not put much strain on the combined company’s 2.5 GHz spectrum, leaving it available for fixed wireless broadband service.

What is fixed wireless 5G? Here’s everything you need to know

If 2019 tech will be remembered for anything, it’ll be 5G. It’s about to make a huge impact in the way we experience wireless connectivity. While often talked about in reference to mobile devices, 5G extends beyond that. It will apply to your everyday home internet connection too — through something called fixed wireless. You’ll be hearing a lot about it in the coming year.cdma fixed wireless phone

5G promises far faster speeds for mobile phones, and reduces the latency or delay inherent in most networks. That means communication will be instantaneous, VR will be as smooth as butter, and all sorts of crazy new concepts will be made possible. And with fixed wireless, all that technology comes right into your home.
So how does fixed wireless differ from traditional wireless internet? Well, for starters, in more traditional internet setups, a cable goes all the way to a house. The homeowner buys a router they can hook up, plugs it in, and updates as they wish.

With fixed wireless, there are no cables required. Instead, a “fixed” antenna is installed on the house, similar to how a satellite dish might be installed. This antenna then creates a wireless connection with a nearby wireless tower, which can connect to many antennas at the same time.

When the fixed antenna receives the signal, it can send the connection down a short cable and into the house, where it can link up to a router or other device as needed. Inside the house, once 5G devices are out in the world, you may not notice anything is different at all.Like other wireless connections, 5G does operate on the radio spectrum, but in a very different way from past wireless internet options. It can run on the low-band, mid-band, or high-band spectrum, and different carriers are already busy experimenting with different bands using their own technology.

As of now, most of the current interest is high-band spectrum 5G using millimeter wave (mmWave) technology. The result is a combination of beamforming and direct wireless connections with mobile devices. If you’ve read anything about MU-MIMO, it is helpful to think of 5G as a massively up-scaled version of a similar technology, able to deliver wireless connections to a whole geographic area.

You can learn much more about 5G applications with our guide here, but for now let’s talk about the main benefits of switching to this new wireless standard.

Tractor-Trailer Hits Cars, House in Meriden

A tractor-trailer carrying mail crashed into several parked cars and a home on Preston Avenue in Meriden Thursday morning and the family is displaced until the home can be repaired.
Officials said the tractor-trailer hit a van, an SUV and a truck before hitting a home and pushing a tree through a bedroom. The homeowner said, fortunately, his daughter who sleeps in the bedroom the tree went through was not home when the crash happened, around 4:15 a.m., because she was at work on an overnight shift.“It sounded like a bomb going off. The house shook,” Aldo Signorello said.Portable Car power Charger
The driver, who was delivering mail between U.S, Postal Service distribution centers in Wallingford and Springfield, Mass. suffered bumps and bruises. No one in the home was hurt, but officials said there is extensive damage to the house and the residents will not be able to return until it is repaired.
The driver works for Davis Mail Services and the operations manager said the truck driver is one of his best, and is always dependable and safe.
According to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, the company has been involved in 24 crashes in the last 24 months. Of those, only five involved injuries.
Ryan Behling‘s van was struck during the crash.
“It’s pretty terrifying,” he said. “It makes me nervous about living here, honestly. A lot of big trucks come flying down. People speed down this road in general, so all it takes is one guy not paying attention and, you know, I could have been sitting in there.”
As part of their investigation, police planned to look at whether the vehicle was overloaded, the speed the driver was going, and whether he fell asleep at the wheel.
“We’re going to see how many hours he was on the road, we’re going to see if he rested between shifts,” said Lieutenant Thomas Cossette, Meriden’s Accident Reconstruction Unit Commander.
Residents along the street said they’ve complained for years about truck traffic and speeding on their street.“It was just a matter of time. We knew something like this would happen,” said Jeff Naldi. “They fly down this road all the time.”“It’s pretty dangerous. We complained about that to the city for many years and nothing has been happening,” added Signorello. The operations manager for Davis Mail Services told NBC Connecticut the van their driver struck was parked illegally, facing the wrong direction on the side of the street.

A LOOK AT THE MURKY WORLD OF GREY MARKET AND COUNTERFEIT CAR PARTS

On Feb. 29, 2016, U.S. Customs officers at the Port of Jacksonville in Florida detained a container arriving from the Middle East on suspicion that the more than 10,000 Nissan auto parts inside were counterfeit. The shipment belonged to AMG Trade & Distribution, a mom-and-pop importer in Pompano Beach, Fla.Car Mobile Phone holder Charger

The 15-month ordeal that followed nearly put AMG out of business and led to stress-related health problems for co-owners Anthony Bachan and Michael Pockhai. Now the company is taking Nissan North America to court for telling U.S. Customs and Border Protection that the goods were fake."I went through hell," Bachan said. With no inventory to sell, AMG lost customers and incurred big legal bills.

The case sheds light on the murky world of gray-market goods — items tåhat are techniåcally legal but considered unfair by a manufacturer — and automakers' efforts to stop their dealerships from straying outside official distribution channels for cheaper parts.

The transactions at issue typically involve genuine, brand-name products from a reseller overseas instead of directly from the manufacturer. Merchandise often can be obtained at a substantial discount from a company's authorized distribution channel.

Sometimes, the goods are genuine but pirated, meaning a contract manufacturer produces more than its customer ordered and funnels the excess through back channels. In this case, AMG bought the parts for $193,375 from the export arm of Suhail Bahwan Automobiles, Nissan's licensed distributor in Oman, according to invoices and court documents.

AMG's core customers are U.S. dealerships, which Nissan has regularly warned not to use parts unless they come through its official North American pipeline. Bachan, who runs the business, and his attorneys say Nissan is trying to interfere with a competitor's legitimate business so it can charge higher prices for parts.

"They tied up our money," he said. "We're a very small company. We depend on one container load to get us through. We sell that and purchase another one. So there was a lot of pain and suffering."
