Hidden fees charged by airlines for services such as changing a name on a ticket or checking in at the airport rather than online are set to be clamped down on by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).飛機航班時刻表

The watchdog will assess whether costs are presented to customers in an “open and clear” way in its review of every airline selling tickets in the UK.

This is so “people understand what they are actually paying for” and avoid being stung by extra charges not made clear from the outset, said a CAA spokesperson.
Budget airline Ryanair announced earlier this month it would reduce baggage fees for the majority of its customers – the latest in a series of changes designed to “stop unnecessarily p***ing people off,” the airline’s chief executive Michael O’Leary said amid profit warnings in 2013.

But transparency around additional fees when booking flights remains a common complaint made towards the Irish airline and other low-cost carriers such as Easyjet.

Earlier this month, northern Irish MP Jim Shannon raised the issue in parliament following claims European airlines made almost £13 billion last year through additional charges and the sale of extras including food and insurance, according to The Daily Telegraph.

When Erin Levi booked a $179 one-way flight to Paris on Level airlines for a friend's wedding a few weeks ago, she joked that it was too good to be true. It was.

At the airport, Levi couldn't find a counter or an agent for Level, so she double-checked her ticket. It read "OpenSkies," a boutique airline operated by British Airways. So she headed to their counter. It was there, she said, she was told Level had delayed launching the Newark to Paris route and was given a number to call.

By that point, though, it was past midnight, and no one was answering the airline's hotline. So Levi bought a new ticket on Wow airlines, hoping to be reimbursed for the $319.98 she paid for the last-minute seat.

"I've traveled to over 40 countries -- even on a handwritten ticket to Uzbekistan -- and this has never happened before," Levi told ABC News.But Levi is far from alone. Some Level customers said they never received emails saying that their flights had been canceled, or found out only upon arriving at the airport and being handed a sheet of paper. Others received emails that went to junk mail. Almost everyone ABC News spoke to said the company should have updated their website to reflect the change in business plans or cancellations.

There is a lot of confusion about the fees/what is included on the different airlines and especially the ultra-discount airlines. There are ways to save money and also there are possible ways a discount carrier could actually cost you more. I will try to make some sense out of it all.Cheap Flights from Shanghai to Urumqi

There are two basic types of airlines, with a few variations. There are the major carriers: American, United, Delta, Alaska, Hawaiian, Jetblue, Southwest and then Ultra Discount carriers: Allegiant, Spirit, Frontier and many new international airlines. The thing you must always do with any airline is read the fine print, they have to state what they charge additional fees for, although sometimes the fees can be hard to find. None of the airlines include free meals except for certain international flights with the Majors and some flights to Hawaii. All airlines have non-refundable tickets and all except Southwest charge to make changes. The change fee varies but can be $200 or more domestic and even more for international flights. On top of the fee, you also need to pay the difference in airfare from what you originally booked and the new flights which could be a lot higher priced. Make sure of your dates/times before you buy your ticket.


The Majors allow you to reserve your seat, bring carry-on bags, soft drinks/water onboard, maybe peanuts/pretzels. Most have meals or snacks for purchase onboard but make sure, especially if it is a long flight. All except for Southwest charge for luggage, however sometimes Southwest is higher priced than the others.

The Ultra Discount Carriers: Allegiant, Spirit and Frontier charge for just about everything. They start with an attractive airfare and then add on fees. You will pay extra for regular sized carry-on bags, checked luggage, using a credit card to pay, printing boarding passes for you, water/pop/peanuts onboard, seat assignments; checked bags can only weigh 40 pounds, huge fees for changes and a few other fees. With their checked bag fees they will charge you one level if you pay for your bag at the time you book, a little higher fee before your flight and the highest fee at the airport. Watch out for the carry-on fees! They allow a tiny bag for free but a regular size carry-on requires a fee and if you show up at the gate with a carry-on that is larger than their allowance they charge up to $100 for that bag. Again, read the fine print!!! Some discount flights only operate 2 or 3 days a week so if there is a flight problem it may take a few days to get another flight or they will just give your money back and you have to go buy a last minute flight at a much higher price.

For bookings since 1 July, if you book a flight plus separate hotel or car hire together from the same travel website in the same transaction, you get full ATOL financial and legal protection, just as with a traditional package holiday (ie, you're covered if a firm goes bust or you don't get the holiday you paid for).

If you book these elements from the same site in different transactions but in the same website visit, you'll get limited protection (so you're only protected if the firm organising your package goes bust, in which case your money's protected and if you're already away you'll get home).

For other bookings, including if you book from the same site in separate visits, you won't get package holiday protection.

To explore the effects of scale inhibitors on subsurface water–mineral interactions, here batch experiments on biotite dissolution (0–96 h) were conducted in solutions containing 0–1.0 mM diethylenetriaminepenta(methylene)phosphonate (DTPMP, silicone additives a model scale inhibitor), at conditions simulating subsurface environments (95 °C and 102 atm CO2). The phosphonate groups in DTPMP enhanced biotite dissolution through both aqueous and surface complexations with Fe, with more significant effects at a higher DTPMP concentration. Surface complexation made cracked biotite layers bend, and these layers detached at a later stage (≥44 h). The presence of DTPMP also promoted secondary precipitation of Fe- and Al-bearing minerals both in the solution and on the reacted biotite surfaces. With 1.0 mM DTPMP after 44 h, significant coverage of biotite surfaces by precipitates and less detachment of cracked layers blocked reactive sites and inhibited further biotite dissolution. Furthermore, adsorption of DTPMP made the reacted biotite basal surfaces more hydrophilic, which may affect the transport of reactive fluids. This study provides new information on the impacts of phosphonates in brine–mineral interactions, benefiting safer and more environmentally sustainable design and operation of engineered subsurface processes.
